If you believe it is economically beneficial for the United States government to buy only things made in the United States, then wouldn't it make sense that citizens should only buy goods manufactured in the United States too? Should we pressure the government to stop all imports to the United States?

And if you think this is beneficial, then shouldn't we take it a step farther? If I live in Kansas, it stands to reason that buying only products made in Kansas will increase the benefits of protectionism for myself, as a Kansan. And if I live in Topeka, then I should at least try to buy only things made in Topeka for even greater economic benefit.

Conversely, in order to put pressure on countries like Iran and North Korea, we should immediately lift all blockades, correct? Because by restricting their purchases to only items made within their own countries, we are doing them a great service.

"What protection teaches us, is to do to ourselves in time of peace what enemies seek to do to us in time of war." - Henry George (1839-1897)

VOTE YES for Streit. The Supreme Court did not changa any law. They did their constitutional duty to void and unconstitutional law.

Our Tea Party is not about these phony issues -- we are about no big government and less taxes. Get government off our backs and out of our personal lives. this Vanderplaats party is controlled by outside bigoted money from Tupelo Mississippi. Plaats is an embarasment to the nation of Friesland.

I have just received an audit notice for use tax. We are a Dental Laboratory and were unaware of use tax. We pay all of our taxes and in a timely manner. We hire accountants from a very good accounting company to make sure we are paying them correctly. Even this company missed the use tax.

The Dental Laboratory Industry has had a very tough year and many labs have closed due to the lab work being done in China. Also the economy has been hit therefore, sales have been down. In this down environment a call from the Iowa Department of Revenue informing you about an audit for use tax is an anxiety for any business owner, let alone an extremely small business owner. I employ 4 people and this audit will take hours of my time, $$$ of my accountants time and $$$ of the labs money. All for a tax that has been dormant for years. I did a survey and out of 50 Iowans that I spoke with including other business owners not one paid or knew of use tax.
Kudos to the state for taking hard earned money from the WORKERS and use it for ??????

I couldn't agree more. Local and regional businesses employ our family, friends, and neighbors. To strengthen our communities and keep dollar cascading through our economy, we need strong small businesses and entrepreneurs. It is their efforts that create most of the new jobs in America.

Imported goods are flooding the shelves of even small retailers like gift shops and galleries. American consumer purchases drive two-thirds of our economy so how we choose to spend our money really matters. Let's make this the year of the American gift.

You are sadly mistaken -- Our Tea Party stands for individual freedom -- from government programs, taxes, and from the government telling us what to do in the family home. The Iowa Supreme Court stands for this freedom. They are our last hope to stand up against government overreaching. That is their job. Anyone who grew up eating ice cream from the Hull Creamery should know this.

GOD, STOP OBAMA !

The USA is presently under attack! Not by a plane flying into a building, but by the insane lying inside a building - the White House!
According to many sources, it was 8:46 in the morning on September 11, 2001 when 9-11 began in New York City.
The answer to the present national crisis will not be found in either an "Eric Rudolph" or in a "John Hinckley Jr."
It will be found when true American patriots collectively ask God to remove from earth - or at least seriously cripple - the same national pestilence!
Each morning at 8:46 all genuine Americans, in their respective time zones, should make this petition to the Almighty.
The more this collective prayer is sent to the "God" mentioned in all 50 state constitutions, the sooner this national cancer will be removed!

Voter Reports, Inc., which I recently founded, was set up to assist conservatives in taking back Congress in the fall elections. Its centerpiece is a website: http://www.voteoutlawyers.com, which provides state-by-state spreadsheet data on the profession of each member of Congress prior to being elected. Currently a stunning 82% of our three branches of government are composed of lawyers.
I was a long-shot Republican Candidate for President of the United States in 2008, placing 10th in the Iowa Caucuses and 10th in the New Hampshire Primary while spending only $36,000 on my campaign.

there is MUCH more to Planned Parenthood just now coming out which MUST be exposed. It is called- RACISM. A New documentary which explored the papers of Margaret Sanger , Planned Parenthood, and the Eugenics movement has been released called - Maafa21 This film really exposes how the elites in Washington in both parties are working with eugenics promoters like Planned Parenthood to target Blacks. If the NAACP could speak truth to this- it would be over. But- Maafa21 is opening eyes and I suggest you get copies and hand them out. View the Maafa21 trailer here http://www.maafa21.com

Original post under "Secretary of Agriculture – Bill Northey is an incumbent who has long worked hard for Iowa farmers and all aspects of the Iowa agriculture industry. (following deleted portion) -The Democrat candidate running against him has in the past, worked for the EPA. Do Iowa farmers need more EPA regulations on farming practices? No – Iowa farmers are the best caretakers of Iowa farms. It is not only their land and their livestock – it is their livelihood, their lifestyle. Bill Northey understands this."

Information from Mr. Thicke's web site - "At the appointment of Iowa Governors, Francis has served on the Iowa Environmental Protection Commission, the Iowa Food Policy Council and the Organic Standards Board"

Dear KT,

I am the Democrat who is running against Bill Northey for Iowa Secretary of Agriculture. You said in your blog, above, that I have worked for the EPA in the past. That is not correct; I have never worked for EPA.

I have in the past worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C., where I served as National Program Leader for Soil Science.

I am a dairy farmer and have been a full-time farmer for 27 years. I also am a scientist, with a Ph.D. in agronomy/soil fertility.

Thank you for making that correction to your blog.
