I’m sure you will remember back in March, when the health care legislation was being so hotly debated. At the time, Congressman Bart Stupak, a Democrat from Michigan, said that he would not vote for any legislation that included federal funding for abortions. He said that he would ONLY vote for President Obama’s health care legislation as long as the President would issue an Executive Order clarifying that no federal funds would be used for abortions.

The President signed an Executive Order purporting to do just that.

It is unfortunate that Cong. Stupak and his small band of followers didn’t listen to the pro-life warning sirens in March – when they warned of obvious pathways created by Obamacare that lead straight to federal funds being used to pay for abortions. Still, Cong. Stupak and several other blue dog Democrats trusted President Obama and voted for his health care bill.

Fast forward to the present: Pro-Life organizations just reported that more than $160 million in federal funding was being allocated to state high-risk insurance pools in Pennsylvania and New Mexico that included abortion services.

After this news surfaced, the Department of Health and Human Services was quick to post a statement rejecting this claim. Then they issued a second statement promising to communicate to state agencies that federal funds for patients with “pre-existing conditions will not” be used for abortion services.

While that is certainly good news, it does nothing to alleviate the concerns of pro-life Americans. After all, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has still never refuted her comments in a letter to Democratic and Republican congressional leaders on the implementation of the President’s healthcare law when she wrote, “States may choose whether and how they participate in the program, which is funded by the federal government.”

I believe this confusion between the states, the federal government and HHS, only proves the President’s Executive Order on this issue is meaningless and can’t be relied on to protect the lives of the unborn.

Whether the policy consequence was intended or not, this latest revelation is sadly just another example of a President whose track record with the truth has left many Americans scratching their heads.

I want to remind you:

- It was this President who said if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor – but even the New York Times reported that in fact, under Obamacare, that’s not necessarily might not be the case.

- It was this President who said, “We must pass the stimulus to keep unemployment from reaching double digits,” However, a year after its passage, the unemployment rate had already skyrocketed to double digits, and continues to hover around 10%.

- It was this President who said, he “will not sign any non-emergency bill without giving the American public an opportunity to review and comment on the White House website for five days,” but that hasn’t been true – many bills have been signed within hours or days of passage.

- It was this President who said, “we’ll have the negotiations (about healthcare) televised on C-SPAN, so that people can see who is making arguments on behalf of their constituents, and who are making arguments on behalf of the drug companies or the insurance companies,” instead, the meetings were held behind closed doors.

- It was this President who said he was, “committed to returning earmarks to less than $7.8 billion a year, the level they were at before 1994.” However, for the fiscal year 2010, total earmarks are costing taxpayers $15.9 billion.

As I’ve said many times before, elections have consequences – but at least we can do something about it come November. Support Huck PAC as we continue working tirelessly to elect conservative candidates and send them to our State Capitals and to Washington D.C. – let’s hold our elected officials accountable for their promises.

The Heritage Foundation’s “Morning Bell” on July 20, reminds us of Obama’s campaign promise of no tax increase for families making $250,000 a year, or less. He repeated this promise September 9, 2009 as president of the United States that there would be no higher taxes but instead we would have greater security. The penalty we face for not purchasing Obamacare is from the IRS, as noted by Obama’s Justice Department,  people will be required to report it on their income tax returns. The CBO estimates a cost of $4,000,000,000 a year to American taxpayers.  “ Yale Law School professor Jack Balkin told a meeting of progressive activists last month that President Obama “has not been honest with the American people about the nature of this bill. This bill is a tax.” ”

Congress uses the “Commerce Clause” as grounds to force us to buy their Obamacare or face sanctions from the IRS.  The logic in that leads to a Congress that can do anything it wants. ” They could: require us to buy a new Chevy Impala each year to support the government-supported auto industry; require us to buy war bonds to pay for the Iraq and Afghan wars; or force us to eat our vegetables.”

The Heritage Foundation clearly understands and explains the myriad of problems Obamacare has with the Constitution. ” The Obamacare mandate is still unprecedented and unconstitutional.”

“But perhaps more importantly, what does the episode say about the integrity of the White House? The President went on national television and insisted in unequivocal terms that his individual mandate was not a tax. Now his administration is saying the exact opposite. At what point do the American people lose all faith in this President’s word?”

Haven’t we reached that point long ago? Where do we go from here? For starters, Repeal Obamacare. http://heritageforamerica.org/issue-briefs/repeal-obamacare/

To start, I need to address what is currently taking place in our country and in Iowa.   Our White House, Senate, and Congress are currently controlled by Progressive Democrats.  As is the Iowa Governorship, the Iowa Senate, and the Iowa House of Representatives.  Progressives are much further to the left than Liberal Democrats.   Their agenda focuses on more Government control of every facet of the American economy and on Americans’ lives.  It believes that those who work hard and save money should be taxed to pay for those who do not – redistribution.  It believes that in all situations, the government knows what is best and right and will move accordingly with no regard to the voices of American citizens. Progressive Democrats believed that Government should control Americans’ health care and it used bribes, blackmail, back room deals, and arm twisting to pass the Health Care bill despite 6 months of hearing Americans speak out against this bill.  They refused to listen. Progressive Democrats  spend our tax payer  dollars to bail out big businesses that are in favor or in bed with the big government.  They spend ‘stimulus’ dollars to reward the states and counties of favored politicians.  They have refused to come up with a federal budget until after the November elections, because they don’t want us to know how truly bad America’s financial situation is.

Progressive Democrats believe that all areas of our lives should be regulated by the EPA and is pushing to enact the Cap and Trade bill which would increase utility costs, tax all industry, tax all trucking services, tax and penalize farmers – thus increasing the cost of all products we buy.  It would regulate all home sales and purchases – increasing the cost of purchasing a home and decreasing your chance of selling your home.  It is a hidden tax on all Americans in all income levels and only lines the pockets of the elite few that are currently in control.

Progressive Democrats  support, and are supported by, Unions.  They want to eliminate American’s choice to join a Union or not to join.   This is illustrated in the fact that Unions are excluded from all the regulations in the newly passed Health bill.  And by the fact that “to remove Iowa’s ‘Right to Work” status” is one of the items on the Iowa Democrats Platform (set of goals).

Progressive Democrats are working hard to enact an Amnesty bill – giving more than 10 million illegals automatic citizenship.  They give lip service to sending more troops and dollars to protect our boarders – but in fact have created new regulation for our Border Control making it harder and more dangerous for them to do their job.  American is at war on our borders with Mexico.  American citizens are at risk every day.  And the President refuses to help. The Federal government is suing the State of Arizona for an immigration law that mirrors the federal law which federal authorities refuse to enforce.

The Federal government is attempting to put a 6 month freeze on all oil drilling.  This will put 10’s of thousands of people out of work and on our unemployment list at a time when official unemployment figures are just under 10% and real unemployment figures are close to 17%.  Alabama fought back and the courts shot down the Federal directive for the freeze.  In fact the Federal government has forced this into court 2 times and twice been shot down.  Now they are trying to figure out a way to “go around the official process” to enact this shutdown.

So, currently, the White House and his administration is in a legal war with two of our states – Arizona and Alabama – attempting to take away “States rights”.

And currently there are 13 states suing the Federal Government  over the unconstitutional control given to them in the Health bill.

Never has the a White House and it’s Administration been so at odds with the will of the 50 states and the of American Citizens.

And now you are thinking – “so, the Republicans weren’t that much better when they were in control at the Federal and State levels.  They spent too much money, added new federal and state controls, didn’t take care of the illegals problem”.  And I would say that you are right.

But I have good news.  Americans across the country are speaking out.  They are demanding fiscal responsibility, limited government and our constitutional freedoms.   Americans have expressed a general distrust of politicians in both parties.

The Republican Party is listening

I have just returned from the Iowa Republican State Convention where I was able to meet the candidates for state offices and hear what they have to say.  I am very happy to say, here in Iowa, we have a great line up of candidates on the Republican Party.    Branstad may not have been our first choice to run for governor (again), but if we are able to elect all of the other candidates listed below, I think they will work hard to hold him to conservative values.  And I think they will work hard to keep Iowans informed.

Governor — Terry Branstad and his running mate Kim Reynolds are in a great position to beat Progressive liberal Governor Culver

Secretary of State – Matt Schultz promises to strengthen Iowa’s voting regulations to ensure there is no voter fraud in Iowa  (look at the fiasco in our neighboring state, Minnesota), and to enforce those laws.  Matt is a grassroots candidate.

Attorney General – Brenna Findley is a fireball of energy and a fireball on protecting our state and individual rights.  She is ready and willing to take on the Federal government and the Iowa government in any and all of their unconstitutional mandates, regulations, and taxation.  When she says she will fight for Iowans – she means it.

State Auditor – Dave Vaudt is an incumbent in this office.  He is called “Iowa Taxpayer Watch Dog” .  He travels the state to anywhere he can get people to listen, to put on a power point presentation on Iowa’s budget.  He works hard to have Iowans know everything there is to know about how our state is spending our tax dollars.  And right now it is not a pretty picture.  His goal is to keep Iowans informed and to keep the government honest.

State Treasurer – Dave Jamison is another grassroots candidate.  He is determined to make the state show an honest budget – no game playing – hiding money here, robbing from this fund to pay that fund ; creative book keeping that hides the fact that Iowa is over budget and in debt.  He will work with State Auditor Dave Vaudt to keep Iowans  informed and to hold the state to it’s spending level limits stated in the Iowa Constitution.

Secretary of Agriculture – Bill Northey is an incumbent who has long worked hard for Iowa farmers and all aspects of the Iowa agriculture industry.

US Senator – Chuck Grassley has proven that he will listen to Iowa voters.  Last year he held town hall meetings where he didn’t just talk – tell us what he wanted to do.  He let us talk, and listened to what we wanted him to do.  That is the kind of true “representative” politician we need.

5th District Congressman – Steve King is on the top 10 hit list for Democrats, and for obvious reasons.  He stands up strong and vocal to defend the Constitution and to defend our rights.  He is our watch dog – letting us know what is happening in Washington.  And he says it as it is.  He is one of the true good guys  in politics, and we are blessed to have him representing our 5th district. Just recently he spearheaded legislation that will force a vote to repeal the Heath Care bill.  When the democrats passed the Health Care bill, they by passed the required voting process.  This will force Congressmen to vote up or down and to let Americans know their true views on this bill.

State Senator – David Johnson has been instrumental in fighting back union control of our state.  In defending Iowa’s “right to work” status.  He is a watch dog on over reaching legislation, taxation and spending.  He is located right here in our county and is willing to listen to us.

State Representative – Royd Chambers  also has been instrumental in the fight to hold off Unions and to defend Iowa’s  ‘Right to Work’  status.  He keeps us informed on the State budget and on proposed legislation.  He is a strong voice for Iowan values.

State Representative – Jeff Smith is running for the office previously held by retiring Mike Mays.  Jeff speaks out for limited government, limited spending, and up holding the Constitution of Iowa and of the United States.  He knows the peoples of this area and will stand up for our values, for our beliefs, for our businesses and for our workforce.

So you can see, the Republican Party is changing.  No more establishment politicians – saying one thing to get elected, then doing something entirely different when in office.  These candidates are energized to “Take Back Iowa” and to “Take Back America” .   They are everyday people willing to run for office because they want to Stand  Up for freedomStand up for the Constitution.  Stand up for US  -   We the People – who are the employers of all politicians.

I invite you to look at the Iowa republicans Platform (statement of beliefs and goals) at: http://www.iowagop.org/site/c.ruIWKbMYIvF/b.5647735/k.A17D/RPI_Platform.htm

And compare it with the Iowa Democrats Platform at :    http://iowademocrats.org/docs/callbook.pdf          You will have to go about 2/3 down on this site to find the platform.        .

This November’s election is more important than any in recent history.  It will determine the direction our country goes.  The future of America.

Do we want to become like European countries?  Closer and closer to socalisium .  More control given to (or taken by) the President of the United States.

Or do we want a return to our Constitutional origins.  To personal responsibility, to personal freedom, to property rights, to small- limited government, to fair taxation.

After George Washington retired from being President, he became
Commander-in-Chief of the Army for a second time.

It was 1798, the year before he died, that he received an urgent plea
from President John Adams.

France, in the midst of revolution, was demanding extortion payments
not to harass American ships.

The cry went out “Millions for defense, but not a cent for tribute.”

George Washington replied to President John Adams, JULY 13, 1798:

“Satisfied…that you have…exhausted, to the last drop, the cup of
reconciliation, we can, with pure hearts, appeal to Heaven for the
justice of our cause; and may confidently trust the final result to
that kind Providence who has, heretofore, and so often, signally
favored the people of these United States.”

George Washington continued:

“Feeling how incumbent it is upon every person…to contribute at all
times to his country’s welfare, and especially in a moment like the
present, when everything we hold dear and sacred is so seriously
threatened, I have finally determined to accept the commission of
Commander in Chief of the Armies of the United States.”

Then, on March 6, 1799, President John Adams declared a National Day
of Humiliation, Fasting and Prayer to “the Most High God.”

Colorado school leaders are taking overt steps to reclaim local control of education.  Here are the signs:

Rural superintendents refused to sign onto the state’s Race-to-the-Top application.

Board member Littleton hopes to head off an August 2 vote of the State Board to adopt the English and math standards.

Iowa’s State Board of Education may take similar action soon.  The Board’s June agenda featured a discussion of common core standards.  Acting Iowa DE Director Kevin Fangman is quoted in a June 14, 2010 Des Moines Register article as saying that the State Board is likely to act this month.

Littleton told the Denver Post “It is unconstitutional for the federal government to step in and mandate and require that everybody use those standards.  The obvious next step is a national curriculum….When you have a progressive mind-set teaching socialism, who has control of this?  What are local parents to do?”

Colorado is similar to Iowa in that the Colorado adopted a new set of 14 state standards but is now being asked to adopt national, common-core standards.

In Iowa, the Model Core Curriculum is touted as a near look alike to state standards.  Iowa school districts facing budget cuts are asking whether this state mandated curriculum could or even should be adopted under the set July 2012 and 2014 timelines.

Mixing the Iowa Core and the national standards?  The Iowa DE says it is committed to having one document for districts to work from if Iowa adopts the national standards.  The agency will blend the national standards and the Iowa Core.  “We are going to make sense of it for them,”  Fangman told the Register.

The following is from an interview for Human Events, by Connie Hair, July 12, 2010.

Rep. Mike Burgess (R-Texas), top Republican on the House Energy and Commerce oversight subcommittee, also warned in our interview Friday that the “A Whale” super skimmer ship — that skims 300,000 to 400,000 barrels a day — was still being blocked from work by the Obama administration.

“The Whale skimmer boat is not being allowed to work because the EPA wants to make sure that the quality of water that’s coming out of the other end meets their specifications.  Well, wait a minute, it’s taking in oil out of the water and putting water back out the other end.  If the EPA wants to monitor while it’s working where it could be improved and where techniques could be modified to get a better result that would be great, but to just hold it up and say they’re doing testing to make sure the water that’s coming out on the clean end does indeed meet our specifications when it’s 99% better than the water that went in on the front end — that’s just nuts,” Burgess said.

Somehow it makes sense to the Obama administration.

Fleming warned that at the end of the day the most enduring damage to the region in the wake of the spill could be inflicted by the federal government.

“When history is written on this episode, what I suspect… it will be all of the economic damage that’s been created mostly by the federal government itself in terms of the moratoria and potentially very onerous regulations — that the real damage will actually occur as a result of the administration and Washington itself,” Fleming said.

The city of Fremont, NE has voted and passed a strong law prohibiting hiring illegal aliens and renting to illegal aliens.  Click here to read the law:
http://www.fremontne.gov/DocumentView.aspx?DID=714

Below is a letter from the city responding to a letter of support.  In the city’s letter, they state they are preparing to be sued and are establishing a defense fund.  All the info is included if you would wish to donate to the fund.

The City of Fremont would like to thank you for your words of encouragement and support. As you know, the voters approved the immigration ordinance on June 21st, 57% to 43%. The new law is expected to become effective around July 29, 2010.

In the meantime, the City has established a Legal Defense Support account. We have been contacted by several entities and it appears that the City will be sued very soon.

Although we have been offered pro bono legal services, that same attorney is asking us to “cooperate with efforts to obtain reimbursement” for these services. In addition, we may need to pay for depositions, expert witnesses, costs of discovery, plaintiff’s fees, and other related costs. In most other communities that have taken this path, these costs have totaled well over $1 million.

Your financial support to help us pay these costs would be greatly appreciated. Our only alternative would be to raise taxes, cut city services or some combination.  Please designate “Legal Defense Support” on your check so that we can deposit your contribution to the proper account.

To contribute, please send your contribution to:
